Michael Owen recalls time Luis Suarez ‘throttled’ Liverpool star in tunnel
Michael Owen claims he once witnessed Luis Suarez put his hands round Andy Robertson’s throat.
Suarez was back at Anfield this evening as Atletico Madrid suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League.
The Uruguayan became a fan favourite during his spell on Merseyside but after opting to leave for Barcelona in 2014 he lost the respect of some of the Liverpool fans.
Suarez further angered Liverpool supporters for his behaviour in the first leg of Liverpool’s clash with Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.
The striker and Robertson were involved in an altercation on the pitch that continued in the tunnel and Owen saw the incident unfold right in front of him.
He’s one of those players who you want on your team but then you hate it when he’s playing against you,’ Owen said ahead of tonight’s game.
‘His time at Liverpool was just phenomenal.
